The Team Behind the Scenes
Have you ever wondered, “Who are the people behind 855.4GR.DOGS?” Every day, Golden Retriever Lifetime Study participants rely on this behind-the-scenes team to help them through the study application process and answer questions about their dog’s annual visits and the study in general.
Led by Amy Miller and Liz Fleeson, the study’s customer service team consists of four full-time representatives (soon to be five) and an additional part-time crew that help meet demand during high-volume times. This team does everything from answering your questions via phone and email to customizing, assembling and shipping veterinary kits, owner welcome kits, veterinarian thank you mailings and reimbursement mailings. This team loves what they do and shares our passion for the study!
“Pets are an unconditional friend that will love you to the end. I am honored that I get to work with such a wonderful group of people with the same goals and passion,” says Liz, who is loved by a Boxer (Sadie-Sue) and two cats (Captain and Jade).
Amy, who grew up always having a dog, is focusing on her two-legged family right now, or should we say six-legged—a 5½-year-old and 2½-year-old twins!
Lisa Klein has been working with the study since the beginning and is an invaluable member of the team. “This study is important because we have so much to learn about animals!” says Lisa, who has a sweet Shiba Inu and a feisty gray cat that she loves to the moon! Lisa has contributed so much over the years to help create and improve the processes and services this team provides.
Devon Krichbaum is the licensed veterinary technician on the team. She started with the study in 2013 and brings technical expertise and a friendly and professional disposition. Devon is loved by Stella, a sweetheart Pit Bull, and Prince Phillip, her black kitty. “Being a vet tech, I have seen so many animals taken away far too soon due to cancer, which is why I am so dedicated to this study,” Devon says.
“Kosmo is my Alaskan Malamute–Husky mix whom I enjoy spending time with and fuels my love of animals, dogs especially,” says Caleb Klahre. “Kosmo has also helped provide the passion I have for working with the Golden Retriever Lifetime Study since March 2014, and I have enjoyed every minute of it.” Caleb brings humor, organizational and mad spreadsheet skills to the team.
Mindy Boyd understands the joy animals bring to our lives through her “own little zoo.” She has a Pomeranian named Sierra, a sugar glider named Bubby, a chinchilla named Pacco, a cat name Oliver and a Basset Hound named Fred. “I don’t know what I would do without them,” she says.
Mindy is often the voice you hear on the other end of the phone or the one replying to your emails. She has been on the team for a year and is dedicated to learning the ins and outs of the study and applying her kind heart to her interactions with study participants.
AJ Riggenbach and Tomm Deavers are the guys who get the kits and cards out the door. They both say dogs have been a constant in their lives. AJ’s family has four dogs and AJ has twin cats, Crosby and Sinatra. Tomm is currently the proud owner of a Burmese Python named Cassi.
“I have worked with this team from the beginning, and their passion and dedication to the success of the Golden Retriever Lifetime Study is evident every day,” says Nancy Kay Clark, the senior study participants specialist for Morris Animal Foundation. She works with Liz and Amy to oversee and manage the study’s customer service team. “I rely on their hard work and professionalism to support our participants as they navigate through the requirements of the study. I know our study participants are in the best of hands.”
