Announcing Gail Ingrish as Volunteer of the Year
Hi Everybody! Wrigley, Nellye and Myca Ingrish, here. We’re the golden retrievers lucky enough to call Gail Ingrish, “Mom.” I’m Wrigley, Hero #22, Nellye is Hero #24 and Myca is our loyal supporter. Ladies don’t always like to talk about their age but sweet, gentle Myca agreed to let you know that she is 15 ½ years old. All of us in the Ingrish household want every dog to live a long and healthy life like Myca, so we are happy and proud to be part of the Golden Retriever Lifetime Study.
Mom learned about Morris Animal Foundation through a fellow Board member when she served on the Board of the Youth and Pet Survivors Program (YAPS). She enrolled us in the Golden Retriever Lifetime Study in 2012 because she hates cancer so much and loves us so much.
Thank you for naming our Mom, Volunteer of the Year. You made her feel really special. She was so happy that if she had a long beautiful tail, like most other angels do, she could have cleared a few coffee tables!
You all said such nice things about mom in your nominations, including that she and “her goldens are very involved in their community.” She helps us spread golden love to so many people. We regularly make our rounds as therapy dogs at Craig Hospital, a place that helps people who have spinal cord and/or traumatic brain injuries. We work hard at Shalom Park where patients and residents receive skilled nursing care. Now, you might not believe this part, but mom even lets us be CATS. Yup, that’s right, CATS! Nellye and I are members of the Canine Airport Therapy Squad (CATS) at DIA.
Everyone who nominated mom emphasized how great it was that she initiated 3000 Cares, a volunteer-run support group for Golden families facing hardship. We sure could tell that 3000 Cares is worth about a gazillion tennis balls to all of you. It’s really a big deal to mom, too. She doesn’t ever want anyone to feel alone during tough times.
Mom really cares about all of the heroes, supporters, and their people. While we could talk about her FURever, what we really want to say is – “Our mom, Gail Ingrish, has always been Best-in-Show in our view. We’re so happy that, this year, she’s Best-in-Show in yours.”
